The Solidarity Economy (also called the Social Solidarity Economy) is an alternative system of governance, labor, and resource sharing that prioritizes social welfare, community care, and worker ownership while challenging authoritarianism, individualism, and exploitation.  In solidarity economies, ordinary people play an active role in shaping all of the dimensions of human life: economic, social, cultural, political, and environmental.

While the roots of solidarity economies (mutualistic cooperatives, non-monetary currencies and exchanges, are as ancient as human socialization itself, modern solidarity-based economic initiatives are driven by rediscovering the timeless practices and beliefs of our collective history and culture, renewing and adapting them to the current material context of technology and society.
